- Vacuum your hand-tufted rug at least once a week in low-traffic areas and more frequently in high-traffic zones to maintain its appearance and longevity.
- If your vacuum has variable power settings, set it low. Do not use a vacuum cleaner with a rotary brush nozzle, sharp teeth or bristles.
- Vacuum the full length of the rug, turn and repeat to the next area, rather than back and forth motion.
- Do not use water to clean hand-tufted carpets as it dissolves the latex that binds the yarn with the backing fabric. We always recommend you to take your carpet to a professional carpet cleaner.
- Light shedding is normal for a new carpet and should reduce within a month or two. Depending on the making technique, during the first period, the carpet can shed quite a bit and is not a manufacturing fault. The best way to get rid of this is to vacuum regularly.
- After a while the shedding decreases but it’s important to know that it will never stop completely. If there are threads coming out, trim them with scissors instead of pulling them out.
- It is essential to attend to stains immediately and avoid leaving them overnight. The longer the stain sits, the deeper it will sink into your carpet.
- If you happen to collect a lot of dust, take your rug outside and beat it to get the dirt out. You do not require any special equipment, a dry mop or broomstick would work just fine.
- Roll the carpet for storage and do not fold. Protect from sunlight.
- New rugs can sometimes have a slight odour due to the materials used in their production and packaging. Take the rug outdoors or to a well-ventilated area, if possible. Unroll it and let it air out for a few hours. This allows any trapped odours to dissipate. You can also place the rug (back side up) in direct sunlight for 24 hours.
- To prevent indentations in new hand-tufted rugs, consider using furniture coasters or felt pads under heavy objects like sofas and tables. These distribute the weight more evenly and reduce pressure on specific areas. Additionally, periodically move furniture slightly to change the pressure points on the rug.
- To protect the rug from fading, keep your drapes and blinds closed. By keeping your drapes and blinds closed, you will be able to protect your carpet from direct sunlight, which is one of the biggest culprits of carpet fading.
